|
The Oracle of the Second Hexagram |
44
Kaou (Temptation)
The wind blows beneath heaven.
The prince shouts his orders
and makes his pronouncements
to the four winds.
A strong and willful woman;
do not embrace her.
|
18
Kiu (Fixing)
Wind at the foot of the mountain.
The superior man helps others
and fortifies himself.
Success
if you keep to your course.
Cross the great water,
but for three days before doing so
consider the step carefully;
and for three days afterward
reconsider it.

The Oracle of the Changing Lines
(Lines are numbered from the bottom up.)
- 4
The man has his basket,
but there are no fish in it.
Ominous.
- 5
The medlar tree throws a shadow
on the gourd beneath it.
If he keeps his brilliance concealed,
Heaven will reward him with success.
